While traveling, I like to experience everything a place has to offer. This also includes tasting local food. Cooking is one of my hobbies and I love to learn new recipes. I enjoy to try them out later, it is almost like reliving those journeys I took. But at the same time, food is also a way of accessing one’s culture. But what if you could combine this three? Flavours and Sounds of Transylvania is the main chance for tasting Romanian culture in the wonderful rural landscape Romania has to offer.

In this article, I will present you a Romanian series of events organized by the My Transylvania Association. These are unconventional events, that reveal villages through culinary art. Not only will you have the opportunity to taste local food made with local ingredients or learn the recipes but one can also discover new cultural heritage. The event I will dedicate this article to,will take place in Prod, Sibiu Country, on the 8th of July but the association plans a series of events taking place in southern Transylvania.

The place

The event is located at a farm in the middle of unspoiled nature and rural landscapes, so it is perfect for someone who wants to escape from the busy cities. The Cross-Country Farm is also known for the Transylvania Horse Show, an event that promotes the passion of learning to ride. Locals will be there, but the place will be crowded with young and old, gathering from all over the country. It’s not about tasting food, it is about eating together.

The schedule

One who takes part in this event doesn’t have to worry about waking up early. The event starts at 11 p.m with two hours of food tasting. Appetizers from a wide selection of traditional, seasonal specialties, a warm dish after an old redesigned recipe from the area, followed by local cakes and seasonal fruits await you. As I mentioned, the hosts will share the recipes with you, but they will also tell you stories about this local delicacies. The best part is that they use local, organic products for the dishes. The event continues with a cultural programme, so one can socialize and relax in the evening.
