In 2007, in the cave called Areni 1 (province of Vayots Dzor) scientists found the oldest winery ever discovered. This 6100-year-old winery has fermentation vats, a wine press, storage jars and pottery sherds. The Areni was always considered as a center of winemaking in Armenia. It is believed that the best grapes grow exactly in that area, and that’s why many wine-making businesses are launched exactly there.
