The airport is one of the most important buildings in any country. It plays a huge role in its economy, tourism and finance sphere. The airport in Chisinau is one of the three airports situated in Moldova. In addition - it is the biggest, most modern and newest airport building in our country. Every day, it transfers people in various directions of the world, bringing them the joy of traveling. Almost three million passengers used this airport in 2018. However, the international status it gained only in 1995, 25 years after it was built.

Flights, food and cool monuments

The Chisinau Airport was officially opened in the 1960s, sixteen years after the creation of the Moldavian Aviation. In 1987, the traffic reached almost one million passengers. Chisinau was connected by air with more than 80 cities of the Soviet Union and 20 cities of its own territory. Years after, in 1995, it became the International Airport. Besides a huge amount of passengers and opened flights, the Chisinau Airport became a place where you not only wait for your flight but also can have a tasty breakfast/lunch/dinner, meet a lot of interesting people, and make splendid photos with cool monuments inside the building. For example, there are a  few monuments dedicated to the airplane crew, in the departure hall of the airport. There is also a big parking place for cars outside the airport, that looks like a little house for cars. Nowadays, our airport looks like a modern place, where you really want to come back over and over again.

The annual Air Show in the Chisinau Airport

Each year, tens of thousands of people enjoy a large air show, organized in the Chisinau Airport in honor of the Civil Aviation of Moldova. This festivity is usually celebrated on the 19th of September (sometimes later) and includes the aerobatics, wind tunnels and aviation equipment exhibitions. Last year, pilots from the Romanian Aeroclub and the aerobatic team from the Baltic States - "Baltic Bees" performed the most complicated aerobatic maneuvers in the sky. The exhibitions of planes and helicopters let visitors come inside and touch the real history with their own hands. Adults and even children can capture bright emotions from this special event. Annually, during the festivity, our government invites famous people to perform and bring joy to the people in the whole airport area. Everyone tries to attend this special event.

For three years in a row from (2008-2010), the Chisinau International Airport was recognized as the best airport in the CIS countries. In 2011, our airport received the prize in the “Dynamically developing airport of the CIS countries” nomination. We can be proud of it because, each year, our authorities try to improve the airport complex. The airport is equipped with modern technologies and has a lot of great cafes and restaurants. KIV Duty-Free can propose you a huge choice of our tasty Moldavian wines and delicious sweets. The Chisinau International Airport can really offer you the joy of traveling, anywhere you like.
