Capital of the Roman Hispania and located at the heart of Extremadura in Spain, Mérida is a city that most archaeologists consider worth a diamond. The Roman traces and history can be seen in open air and around every corner… and most of the ruins are not even excavated yet! Alongside our local guide, experience and visit the Mérida’s Roman theater which is one of the best preserved sites in the whole world. And soak in the authentic culture of which the locals are so proud of: a mix of admiration for the glorious past and profound desire to respect it and learn from it. A truly memorable experience!
In the first part of the experience, we will be busy discovering what has made the town so impressive and famous : a visit of both the theater and the adjacent amphitheater. Afterwards, a one minute walk will lead us to the Roman Museum, again for a very complete and interesting visit.
Now, if you like, let me take you to a great place to enjoy a drink and a snack. It's a good time for informal discussion as well.
After the break, you may want to buy souvenirs before we head towards the Milagros Aqueduct. On the way there, we will stop briefly at St. Eulalia basilica. At the Albarregas Park we will visit the aqueduct and walk on the Roman bridge. With all of this will come explanations, local anecdotes, and time for great pictures of course.
It's time for a good lunch, in a café bar very much appreciated by locals, to taste typical "raciones". On our way, we will pass by the roman thermae, for a quick glimpse.
The moment has come to leave your guide and say goodbye. Hopefully, you enjoyed the experience !
Not being in a rush. Leaving space for the unexpected. Enjoy the local vibe and create unforgettable memories.
This is what our experiences are really all about. So start your own Live Story, and let the magic happen!
Hello, I'm Adam, a journalist, teacher and itinari guide based in Badajoz and Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. I'm from London, where I was born and grew ...up, but have spent the last nine years living on the Iberian Peninsula, including Pamplona, Seville and Lisbon before settling in in Extremadura. I'm a lover of literature, history and sport, which is why I'm often running in the mornings, watching football in the evenings and reading late at night. The people I've made friends with over the years would most likely describe me as somewhat of a 'night owl' because the night is when I tend to socialise most, often in bars. I first fell in love with travelling in 2008 when I went inter-railing across Europe for two months. Since then I knew that travelling was and always will be a major part of my life. Being a guide comes naturally to me because I love sharing what I know about places with others, and I know from experience how much a local-based guide can enhance your trip. What I want to do is to show you things about places that you won't find in any guidebook… so shall we begin?
Adam will be waiting for you at Plaza Margarita Xirgu
