Three worth-the-ticket Cinemas in Athens

2 minutes to read

Once in Athens the things you might do are almost endless: visits to museums, exploring different neighbourhoods, spending some time at the nearest beach, or enjoying one of the city’s many cool bars are just some of the activities a visitor might end up doing. Why not spending an evening at a movie theatre too? Athens is filled with open air cinemas during the summer, while during the colder seasons, many alternative and independent ones are ready to welcome you and treat you very well; here is a little list of some theatre worth the ticket:

Cine Thisio

This open-air cinema is very well known throughout the city and its inhabitants, especially for its incredible location. Right under the Acropolis, this place, set up in 1935, offers to the movie fans not only the movie to watch but also a unique view of Athens’ most relevant attraction. And blankets when it is chilly.

Mikrokosmos is a medium size theatre where you’ll find not just international movies but also festivals, special projections and events. But, what really makes me suggest this place is its full equipped bar and the laid-back atmosphere of the location. You might come here for a screening and end up having a fun night at the bar, completely forgetting about the movie.

Zefyros New Art Cinema

Ano Petralona is one location certainly worth of a stroll; its bistros and restaurants are ideal after or before the movie at Zefyros Cinema. In this old style, open-air theatre nestled between two typical Athens buildings, you’ll find a selection of old classic international movies that will not disappoint any cinephiles and art fans.
