If you are in Yerevan and searching for nice places for a picnic or spots where you can just sit with a coffee and read a book, then this article is for you. Today, I will tell you about two famous parks in Yerevan that are much liked and often visited by the locals.

Tumanyan Park

Tumanyan Park is a public park named after an Armenian poet Hovhannes Tumanyan and was opened in 1970. The park is located in the Ajapnyak district of Yerevan. It occupies a huge area (around 7 hectares), where you can always find kids and adults walking. In the park, very often take place different social events and gatherings. One does not need special permission to gather there with friends and organize for example small workshops (the last one I have attended there was a Mandala making workshop).  Right below the park is a huge gorge called Hrazdan, where the Hrazdan River flows. From there opens a nice view to the Kievyan Bridge. The area becomes nicer in the evenings when the street lights are on.

This park is very often called Tumo park. One can think it’s a short version of Tumanyan. However, it is called like that because of a huge building at the beginning of the park that is the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies. In this center, kids from the age of 9 to 12, based on their individual preferences, learn IT related stuff such as animation, game development, web development, and digital media. A part of the park which is closer to Tumo has more modern style with nice fountains.

Lover’s Park (Siraharneri aygi)

Lover’s Park is a very cozy and nice park on Baghramyan Avenue. Reading the title, you may think that only the lovers make their way there. However, at any time of the day, there are many people including kids with their moms, young people and adults. The park is located next to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. You can either take away your coffee & tea or some sweets from the Achajur Café located in the park and enjoy it sitting on the benches or stay at the open-air café for some time. It is a good idea also to take your laptop and do half of your work in nature. In the Lover's Park, even time to time are hosted some social events and free open-air concerts.
