As one of, if not THE, most famous band of all time, you can imagine that The Beatles have a story to tell. As their home city where the band was formed, which also served as inspiration for some of their most popular songs, Liverpool is a big part of that story. If you’re a Beatles fan visiting for the first time, or simply heading to the city for a weekend with some curiosity about the Fab Four, there are plenty of cool places to immerse yourself in this incredible part of musical history and walk in the footsteps of this extraordinary group.

The Beatles Story is such a cool way to really step back in time to what life was like during the band’s heyday. This incredible immersive journey lets visitors into the lives of four young men who were propelled from their humble beginnings to great fame and fortune. The best part about exploring Liverpool as a Beatles fan is that it’s not only recreations of iconic places you can visit: you can even experience the real thing. The Cavern Club is famously known as the birthplace of The Beatles, as this is where the band officially started out and started to gain popularity. The band played here nearly 300 times at the beginning of their career, and now the legendary venue plays homage to its rich musical legacy while still providing a stage for new local talent to play music. With live music on every night, a visit to the Cavern Club is always a good time, but the fact you can stand within the walls where the Fab Four started makes it even more special.

If you want to see more places around the city associated with the early days of the Fab Four, the 2-hour Magical Mystery Tour takes you on a fascinating tour around Beatles Liverpool. You’ll see where the members of the group grew up, where they met, and where they formed the band that would take over the world. It also takes you to some locations that inspired some of their most memorable songs like Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, before dropping you off at the Cavern Club (where you’ll get free entry as a part of the tour!). The best part about this tour is that you get an entertaining insight into the lives of the boys in Liverpool from a qualified Beatles guide, and you can sing along to some iconic tunes along the way.

The famous song ‘Penny Lane’ is about Paul McCartney’s experiences growing up around the street of the same name, and it’s on Penny Lane where he and John Lennon used to catch the bus together into town. The real-life Penny Lane is a little way out of the centre of Liverpool but is easily reached on public transport or on the Magical Mystery Tour which gives you an opportunity to get off the bus, stand where Paul and John stood, and take that all-important photo with the iconic street sign.

If you’re doing the rounds of Beatles locations in Liverpool, you can’t miss their bronze statue which was unveiled in 2015 on the Waterfront to mark the 50-year anniversary of the band’s final gig in Liverpool. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from both the Beatles Story Museum and the Cavern Club, and is a great place to get a photo and envision what it was like for the boys to walk through their home town together in the early days, before life changed forever.

The Beatles are such a huge part of Liverpool’s legacy, but this fascinating city has even more interesting history and culture to discover, making it a worthwhile destination whether you’re a Fab Four fan or not.
