Continuing my “3-day itinerary” series, I am now back with the second part of the “Ionian islands’ suggestions” to present a new route during which you’ll have the chance to explore some of the most beautiful Ionian islands!

Let’s now suppose that this time you’re about to start your trip from the beautiful island of Lefkada and you’re looking for an alternative kind of holiday where you can explore amazing locations out of the beaten track.

Well, let’s also say that you’ve got some time, you have saved some money and a strong motivation to travel around the Ionian Sea, urges you to do a small and quick research on the places offered for a unique cruise experience. Where would you go and what islands would you visit?

In the itinerary that follows, I’ve prepared a few suggestions that would definitely steal your heart, whether you’re travelling to Greece during winter or summer! Well, in this case travelling during summer is strongly recommended! Let’s start!

Day 1. Lefkada

As a big fan of the Ionian Sea and of its blue and cold-refreshing waters, I feel that it’s my responsibility to suggest this dreamy destination and its magic beaches. Catching a ferry from Corfu is probably the fastest way to get to the impressive island of Lefkada (unless you’re coming from the mainland; in this case through a small bridge, Lefkada can actually be accessed by car!). Considered as the Caribbean of Greece, Lefkada island amazes visitors with its beauty! This is the perfect place for families, couples and large groups of friends, since it offers a variety of activities and breathtaking landscapes that shouldn’t be missed!

Day 2. From Lefkada to Kefalonia

Kefalonia island is the largest island in the Ionian Sea, and the sixth in size of all the Greek islands. Famous for its rich cultural heritage, the island is mainly tied to literature and music. Beautiful landscapes and pure white sand beaches, can be found within an area of 254km coastline. A must-visit while in Kefalonia, is the cave and the lake of Melissani; beautiful waters with changing shades of blue as the sun sets, honey-like brown walls and countless stalactites will take your breath away and travel you to another, mythical and magical world.

Day 3. From Kefalonia to Ithaca

After spending a beautiful day in the island of Kefalonia, your next recommended stop is of course the island of Ithaca. Specifically, visitors can take the ferry to Ithaca from the ports of Smi or Poros. Famous all over the world as the mythical island of Odysseus, Ithaca charms its visitors with the laid-back mentality, its blue green waters and its lush greenery.

According to Homer, this island symbolizes the eternal destination all people are intending to find, the end of a journey and the beginning of a new one, the sweet homeland that we will always miss...

Like all the Ionian islands, Ithaca, ideal for families and romantic couples offers crystal waters, sandy beaches, impressive trekking paths, an always shining sun and of course, delicious local meals (especially fish)!

Alternative suggestion; From Kefalonia to Zakynthos

One of the most astonishing beaches definitely worth-visiting while cruising among the Ionian islands is of course, the famous “Shipwreck beach”, known in Greek as “Navagio”, located in the beautiful island of Zakynthos. The beach is spectacular and of course it’s best viewed from above.

In summer, there are ferries between Zakynthos and Kefalonia, operated by Ionion Pelagos Lines. What are you waiting for? Plan a visit to Zakynthos and get astonished by its natural beauty and its bluegreen waters!

Ready to explore them all? More tips and similar itineraries are about to be revealed soon! All you have to do is just stay tuned on our page! Cheers!
