With a total of 192 steps and ten landings, the stairs are a true architectural marvel. Originally made of sandstone, erosion led to the replacement of the steps with rose-grey granite from the Boh area in 1933. The landings were also covered with asphalt.

Cinematic Fame

The Potemkin Stairs gained international fame thanks to Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 silent film, Battleship Potemkin. The film showcased a dramatic scene on the stairs, forever etching them into cinematic history. Today, the stairs are a popular spot for film enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
