This page aims to publicize the activities developed by the Gold Museum and be a vehicle of communication between the museum and the community. Located in the old House of the Royal Intendance and Foundry of the Gold of Sabará, organ of the Portuguese crown created in the middle of century XVIII, responsible for the coinage and taxation of gold extracted from the old District of the River of the Velhas. It was the place where the Intendente lived, man of confidence of the King, responsible for the recollection of the Fifth of the gold - Real tax on the extraction of the Gold. With the end of its activities, the construction was taken to auction in 1840, being used as a residence and school. In the 40's of the 20th century, the building was acquired by Companhia Siderúrgica Belgo Mineira and donated to the then Historical and Artistic Patrimony Service - SPHAN, which restored it to become a Museum. Created by Decree-Law No. 7483, dated April 23, 1945, the Gold Museum was inaugurated on May 16, 1946, and is currently a museum unit of the Brazilian Institute of Museums - IBRAM, an organ of the Ministry of Culture.

Before IBRAM, the museum was linked to the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN). Already part of the Pro-Memory Foundation and, as previously mentioned, the National Historical and Artistic Patrimony Service - SPHAN, in the years of its creation, in 1945.
