The museum is located just outside the village, in the S. Nicola, with panoramic views of the Hill of the Temples, in an area that has recently been identified as the site of the agora top of the ancient city, in which we find evidence of interest archaeological and architectural.

The museum, built in the 60s, comes from a good balance between the new buildings designed for the museum and the restored structures and restoring them to the fourteenth century Convent of St. Nicholas, where they found houses the library, meeting hall and the auditorium.

The museum illustrates the history of ancient Agrigento and historically connected to it territory from prehistory to the stage Hellenization.

Collections. The oldest part is from the Municipal Museum, which had converged the finds of the excavations conducted in the early decades of this century. Other material has been transferred from the archaeological museums of Palermo and Siracusa. The most significant part of the collection, however, is made up of the materials found in the excavation campaigns conducted, since the forties, by the Superintendency of Agrigento.

The sort, to a chronological and topographical time, is divided into two autonomous and complementary sections, exposure of the finds is always supported by documentary material.
