Arica and Parinacota

The Arica y Parinacota region is the most northern region in Chile, and for long it was disputed between Chile and Peru....

Its name encompasses one of the main towns of the region, Arica, and an overshadowing volcano, the Parinacota, giving a taste of this area’s features: not very densely populated and with nature at the very untouched best. This region is considered well off-the-beaten-path as not many tourists venture into this area, embraced by steep mountains, wind-swept plains and raw and dramatic nature. But for the ones who do, the countless paths into the mountains, small lakes and rivers crossing the vast green plains and the clear and clean skies will be a great reward, that will last well longer than expected.
