Albergo dei Poveri

The Albergo dei Poveri was born in Genoa from the second half of the seventeenth century by the nobleman Emanuele Brignole, to offer shelter, food and education to the most destitute. This institution of public assistance for the reception of various categories of disadvantaged citizens. In over 300 years of history, the Albergo dei Poveri has kept a large number of artistic, pictorial and sculptural works from different schools and currents, both Italian and European. The building has a four-sided plan, with a long façade, consisting of two advanced side bodies and a central one moved, with a church with around four large inner courtyards.
