Feira do livro de Lisboa first appeared in the 1930's, under a different name. It was called 'Semana do Livro', which means 'book week'. During the event, a select number of Lisbon bookshops would display and sell their books to the public on the street. Throughout its history, the fair would change its location, from Rossio to Baixa, then to Praça do Comércio and Avenida da Liberdade. In recent years however, is has been regularly held in Parque Eduardo VII, and it has gained a bigger dimension. Today, along with the numerous stands where each book editor sells their titles, there are book presentations, talks with authors, children events, live shows and concerts, in an event that last a few weeks and gathers hundreds of thousands of people each year, around the months of May and June.
