Historylinks Museum is located at The Meadows, in the Cathedral town of Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland. The museum opened in 1998, and received VisitScotland’s prestigious 5 Star Museum award in 2009, a standard which it continues to maintain.
The Dornoch area is rich in identifiable artefacts, dating back to pre-history. The museum has displays ranging from archaeological fragments associated with Neolithic settlements, and information on Viking invasions and a turbulent medieval period, through to domestic, industrial, agricultural and military items connected with everyday life in Dornoch
In particular, there are a number of displays dedicated to the development of the local Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Many other notable exhibits include a local jeweller and watchmaker’s tools and workbench, artefacts from the Dornoch Light Railway, a selection of local marksman Robert Mackay’s trophies, a crofting display, a geological section, and a 13th century seal matrix of James, Chaplain of Dornoch. We have also recently acquired a mummified cat ~ you'll have to visit to find out the story !!
We re-open on 1st April 2015 ~ Charges are £3 for adult, and £2.50 for concession.
