History of the Janus University Theater:

The Janus University Theater was established in 1996. In Pécs, there were many traditions of university acting. The National Theater of the Pécsi Theater in the Pécs Theater was created with a great audience success at the beginning of the nineties by the National Theater of the Örkény Theater of the Teacher Training College. But by the mid-nineties, institutional reorganization and the reduction of budget frameworks dispelled the academic performance of the city's artistic and cultural institutions. Therefore, János Mikuli and Ernő András Tóth initiated (with the support of several academic officers and instructors) that a student theater should be set up with the maintenance of (J) PTE. In the first season of JESZ, the program has been formed, which today basically determines the operation of the theater.

During the intensive work, the university actor has become more and more educated, but older alternative actors and professionals are members of the company. JESZ has been working with several directors since the beginning. Perhaps this allowed the company to remain open, to speak in a variety of theatrical languages, and its work is continuous. With 30-50 members each year, 4-5 performances are held annually and 80-90 appear to the audience. JESZ is present at the most important domestic alternative festivals since 1997, and his productions have received several awards. From 1999, he can represent alternative acting in foreign meetings (Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Belgium) The Janus University Theater has been organizing the Theater Theater Festival since 1999. In the spring of 2000, the theater of the JESZ theater house cracked and became unworkable for theatrical work, so the Janus University Theater from 2000 to 2002 worked in the National Theater of Pécs, where he presented his lectures here. In early February 2003, JESZ's new playground at Szépó Kovács János u. 1 was completed, which was rebuilt in 2008. Generations replaced each other, but theater work remained steadily high. (He received the PES University of Culture Award in 2006), and his festival became international. In the autumn of 2011, the 15-year-old Janus University Theater was able to occupy professional studio studios in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter.
