Musée Mallarmé

In 1874, Stéphane Mallarmé, the author of marine Breeze, Herodias, The Afternoon of a Faun and A Shot of the dice will never abolish chance, discovered at a place called Valvins, this old hostel for water marks. For 24 years, it rents some rooms for family stays longer and longer. These moments are Valvins for him a need and a real renewal. He died September 9, 1898.

Today, the museum dedicated to him restores the charm of this resort. Upstairs, it presents a reconstruction of the apartment of the poet through different objects, pieces of furniture and works of his friends painters and sculptors including Edouard Manet, James Abbott McNeill Whistler and Paul Gauguin. In the rooms on the ground floor, temporary exhibitions in connection with the poet's universe, complete the visit. The beautiful garden where Mallarmé loved "groom flower before his" contributes to the approval of this memorial. It invites visitors to dream in the footsteps of the poet.

The museum participates throughout the year at major national events. It offers a dense cultural and varied programming as well as entertainment and tours for all ages.
