The current Civic Museum occupies the Palace of the Bishop and the building of the Loggia della Ragione; the latter was built during the fifteenth century to house the minor Venetian representatives and the mayor in his capacity as administrator of justice. La Loggia was painted around the mid-sixteenth century.


The first nucleus of museum collections is formed early nineteenth century thanks to donations from Manera Domenico and Giovan Battista Sartori Canova; but with the legacies of the heirs of Andrea Manera (1880) and the Pacific Scomazzetto (1888) which is officially established the museum. This first group of products is exhibited at the Sala della Ragione where the headquarters at that time also the Town Hall. Since then, private donations are intensified, increasing considerably the artistic and historical heritage of the institute. The recent redevelopment of the museum houses the Archaeological Section (ground floor), the Art Gallery (first floor), the Treasury of the Cathedral, sections Caterina Cornaro, Eleonora Duse and Freya Stark (second floor).
