The purpose of the Sastamala Regional Museum's mission is to maintain and strengthen the understanding of the inhabitants of the region about their culture, history and the environment.
Sastamala's history extends to prehistoric times. Already 7,000 years ago, there were hunters and fishermen in the area. Permanent settlements in the region have been since the Iron Age. The first written mention of Sastamala is from the 14th century. The Sastamala manor is roughly equivalent to the current Sastamala, which includes Vammala, Tyrä, Karkku, Äetsä (Keiky and Kiika), Suodenniemi, Mouhijärvi and Kiikoinen.
The basic idea of the new museum is that the overall picture of local history is based on the history of individual people and the official history writing together. The local museum is a museum of local people and we want to develop the museum according to the wishes. You are a schoolgirl, a senior citizen, a summer genius, a returnee or a runner-up, to come up with a new kind of live and making museum!
