Museo Archeologico Orentano

The museum is housed in the building that housed the small theater in Orentano, dating from the first half of the twentieth century. Exhibits and documents the history of the northern slope of the land, among the Cerbaie and the ancient Lake Bientina, using original artifacts (stone tools, ceramics, metals, coins and wooden objects), reconstructions of plastic and educational panels. The first section, dedicated to prehistory, is one of the most comprehensive in Tuscany and exhibits tools of Homo erectus, Homo Sapiens neandertalensis and Homo Sapiens Sapiens, our forefather. The section concludes with a presentation of findings from a small Bronze Age village, from which the burial of an adult woman, dating to 1200. C. The Etruscan period is illustrated by the numerous artefacts from Gini Bridge, excavated between 1983 and 1986: bronze and glass paste jewelry, coins and Operator`s tools, amphorae and pottery fine table. Of particular interest to the rarity of the discovery is the remains of the Roman bridge in wood discovered in the plain of Orentano in 1989 and here illustrated by a reconstruction of plastic, which are flanked by ceramics, precious jewelry, weapons, iron utensils, agricultural tools and carpentry. A further element of great archaeological rarity, at least in our latitudes, is the monossile canoeing in the Middle Age reason Oak documenting the navigational techniques of ancient origin of the waters of the ancient Lake Bientina.
