Museo Centro di Storia Patria dei Nebrodi "S. Franchina" - Tortorici ME

The Centro di Storia Patria dei Nebrodi of Tortorici was established in 1984 by Prof. Sebastiano Franchina. In August 1997 he inaugurated the new headquarters in an evocative basement of the Circolo Orice, built in 1862, whose elegant façades overlook Piazza Timpanaro and Piazza Faranda.

In the headquarters, which in fact acquired museum evidence, (Ethno-anthropological Museum) the work tools and products of the millenarian agro-pastoral civilization of the Nebrodi were collected. Among other things, one can observe: u cintimulu (the whirlpool) a kind of hand-operated domestic mill that was used to grind small quantities of grains; the saraudda (a sort of modern silos in which the grain was mainly kept, all the tools for the processing of linen, including the loom for weaving the linen, u scapulari (a kind of mantle made with the drape worked in the paraturi or gualchiera). factory, last remaining in good condition in the province of Messina, is located along the Tortorici river on the border with the territory of S. Salvatore di Fitalia.The owners Giuffrida are activating for a final restoration, all household utensils and many other things.

The great part of the objects that are found in the headquarters is then constituted by the work tools and by the products of the artisan civilization that is still perpetuated in Tortorici. Among other things, it is possible to observe: stone and clay, wood, wrought iron, copper, leather and above all bells and small items melted in Tortorici from the 16th century. XIII to today.
