Sant'Anna di Stazzema - Parco Nazionale della Pace

The National Park of Peace of Sant'Anna di Stazzema was established by Law 381/2000. In the Sant'Anna massacre of August 12, 1944 560 people were killed, mostly women and children. The houses were set on fire and destroyed by grenades, flamethrowers and grenades. Only in 2005 it was enacted by the Military Tribunal of La Spezia a sentence of life imprisonment in absentia for ten SS perpetrators of the massacre. The process of La Spezia (which saw its epilogue in the ruling of the Supreme Court in November 2007) was opened thanks to the discovery of the documents contained in the closet of shame. The great detective work of the PM Marco de Paolis and his staff has allowed the reconstruction of the events and punishment of the perpetrators. The memory of the facts has been carried and transmitted by the survivors and the families of the victims, to which we all have a deep gratitude, with the help of local institutions. The law 381/2000 was enacted on the initiative of Mr. Carlo Carli, the first signatory.
