The current theater is located on deprecedente ashes namesake theater designed by the architect Cosimo Morelli between 1773 and 1787. The hall of the shows of the old structure was presented with plant bell and 4 tilts tiers for a total of 67, characterized by balustrades balconette. The decorations were entrusted to Vincenzo Mazza, Giovanni Battista Bunelli and Melchiorre Jelli. The theater was declared unusable in 1881 and demolished in 1885 to be replaced by the present theater. The new building designed by the architect Gaetano Canedi was erected between 1887 and 1892, while the decorations are the work of Giovanni Diana, Fernando and Alfonso Goldini Torchi. Closed in 1987 for compliance with safety standards, the theater was restored and reopened in 1999. The façade has a neo-Renaissance appearance and has, in the central area, two rows of paired pilasters (Tuscan and Ionic) interposed with large openings to bow, three on each floor. The openings on the two sides are arched on the lower level and a kiosk on the upper floor. Above there is an attic broad horizontal band. The lobby is decorated in geometric patterns, while the auditorium has a horseshoe plant, characterized by a high base perimeter. The theater has three tiers of boxes for a total of 72, including 8 of the proscenium. Above there is a large gallery to gallery. From the balustrade of the gallery depart a series of cast-iron pillars of the same diameter, but higher and numerically half of those between the underlying boxes which support the hooked ceiling, in turn, with wooden trusses, the iron structure of the metal sheet and dome, with a central lantern glass to promote the use of the room for even the daytime shows. The proscenium is traditional and the antlers are flanked by pilasters, ended by brackets to the lintel backboard lacunar. The pictorial decoration of the balustrades of the boxes end, the gallery, and 14 sectors which is divided that part of the ceiling surrounding the lantern, by Giovanni Diana and Ferdinand Torchi recall floral motifs. The well-preserved curtain is the work of production designer Alfonso Goldini.
