Hotel History

The Hotel Santo Condestável is a hotel unit of Fatima, founded in 1984 and refurbished in 2004. The Hotel is located on Avenida Beato Nuno and is a homage to Nuno Álvares Pereira.

D. Nuno Álvares Pereira Nun 'Álvares was born in 1360 in Santarém and died in 1431 surrounded by King D. Duarte and the Infantes. It was legitimized by the king D. Pedro I and in the reign of D. Fernando is ordered knight. It is with D. João I that stands out: It fights the battles of Atoleiros, Trancoso and Aljubarrota, in 1385. The legend tells that already the warriors were fighting while Nuno Alvares Pereira prayed to Our Lady. He was made count of Ourém (where the place of Fatima was inserted), Barcelos and Arraiolos. He began the construction of the Convent of Carmo and enters the cloister, as Frei Nuno de Santa Maria. In 1918 the Vatican approved the cult of the Holy Constable.
