Μουσείο Χριστιανικής Τέχνης "Αγία Αικατερίνη" / Museum of Christian Art

The main theme of the Museum's exhibition is the ecclesiastic art that developed in Crete from the 14th to the 19th century, with particular emphasis on post-Byzantine icons, mainly on representative works of the Cretan School of Hagiography. Among the most important exhibits are the icons of two great representatives of this school, Angelos Akotantos (early 15th century) and Michael Damaskinos (16th century). The exhibition also includes samples of frescoes, stone sculpture, wood sculpture, post-Byzantine metalwork and miniature crafts, coins, devotional items, bibles, embroidery, manuscripts and palettes.
