Museo Malacologico Malakos

It was 5 million years ago that Umbria was missing the sea and we brought it back! In the museum you will find 40 windows that will take you around the world: from the North Pole to the Antarctic, passing through the most remote islands of the Pacific Ocean. You will understand how the shells are made, what the molluscs that build them are, how they move, how they reproduce and the wonder of their colors. You will discover how the marine fauna of the Mediterranean is changing due to the presence of numerous tropical species, the magic of "living fossils" and the mystery of the Ammonites.

Malakos is a museum for everyone. We can satisfy the curiosity of the public of all ages and specialists, for whom the scientific collections are rich by about 600.000 specimens available by appointment. It is possible to admire a reconstruction of the Australian Great Barrier Reef, made using over 1000 madrepores seized for illegal importation.

The museum has a wide educational offer for schools, from primary to university. For teachers it is possible to activate science teaching courses.
