Museu da Imagem e do Som

The Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), former Center for Audiovisual Reference, develops a broad policy of support for the audiovisual universe of the city of Belo Horizonte, acting on several fronts, from preservation to production. As a museum unit, it has the primary mission of guaranteeing access to the audiovisual collections that are representative of local production, working towards its preservation, research and dissemination.

The MIS maintains almost 70 thousand items, in air-conditioned reserves, with monitoring 24 hours. It has a multidisciplinary team made up of technicians in museology, history conservation and cinema, who treats records in the most different media: film, videographic, photographic, phonographic, three-dimensional and textual. All this collection is available for consultation. MIS broadens its actions, with a varied program schedule that includes exhibitions both at its headquarters and at various cultural centers in the city itself.

The performance of the Museum of Image and Sound extends to other stages of the audiovisual chain, such as production, exhibition and training. Through its educational and diffusion actions, MIS contributes to the training of conservation professionals, offering workshops for the preservation of film collections, and for the formation of the public, with activities such as commented cinema sessions, outdoor exhibitions , lectures and seminars. These initiatives cater to the most different age groups, from children to senior citizens, street people and users of the municipal social assistance system.

One of the equipment of the Museum of Image and Sound is Cine Santa Tereza, which will be inaugurated in 2015.
