Museu Municipal de Penafiel

The Municipal Museum of Penafiel, dependent on the Municipality of Penafiel, has, for over sixty years, a permanent structure, foundation of planning policy and management of cultural Municipality resources with an active role in the preservation and promotion of significant values movable, immovable and intangible heritage. Constituted since 1948, with the Library, the palace of Calvary Baron, it was due to the persistence of Abilio Miranda, its first Director. Separate institutions in 1995, the Museum temporarily occupied part of a polyvalent the city, awaiting the completion of the draft of the new premises of the architects Fernando Távora and José Bernardo Távora. Now located in the palace Pereira do Lago, former College of Mount Carmel, the Municipal Museum of Penafiel distinguished by the modernity of its permanent exhibition, whose exhibition design was in charge of Francisco Providence designer, produced by Caryatids company, offering the public a unique experience over the five themed rooms that comprise it. The Municipal Museum of Penafiel museum has two extensions: Castro Mozinho Hill and the Mill Bridge Novels. In both cores Museum is guided tours for groups by appointment. Has Friends Association established since 1999.
