Teatro Alfieri

The Teatro Vittorio Alfieri of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is the most important nineteenth-century theater of the Serchio Valley and one of the largest in the Province of Lucca. Was founded in 1860 by a group of local notables among which the Count Giovanni Carli and Antonio Vittoni: an elegant architectural structure built with compositional and decorative already tested in Teatro del Giglio of Lucca, which since the inaugural event showed symbol of unity and meeting place for the whole territory. Later because of the decline of the Carli family fortune, the theater was sold at auction.

After several years of inactivity filming the show organization with a new employer, that I carry with them large public acclaim.

The building was unscathed the bombings of World War II and the Liberation took over the business as a cinema, until its complete closure in 1990.

After major restoration that returned to its former glory Theatre, today Alfieri hosting events of national significance. You can enjoy a prestigious theater season but also shows otherwise. Indeed, the structure houses, even conferences or special events and at the same time also important courses dedicated to different types of theatrical activities.

Teatro Alfieri wants to be today a reference point for all the province of Lucca and the symbol of a city rich in art and culture land like Garfagnana.
