HISTORY OF THE MUNICIPAL THEATER OF ALMEIDA VIANNA

In 1960, Mayor Tuffy Nader built the modern headquarters for the municipal services of the Executive and City Council, with the aim of perpetuating the beginning of a new time in the city's trajectory. With his own determination as a dynamic and enterprising man, he planned to mark this transition with a work that, in addition to being beautiful, would be useful and would constitute a landmark in the city, abandoning the old image of poverty to take flight in the ideals of progress and culture. In the project, he invited the Capixaba architect Elio de Almeida Vianna to do the project, marked by the balance lines that make up his four facades and by an internal physical space that would house the Executive Branch, as well as a modern auditorium and other dependencies for the Legislative Branch .

The progress and beginning of the cultural advance of the city suggested by the work of Tuffy Nader made him construct the kiosks along the Beach of the Coast, repeating in miniature, the new symbol of the city, contained in the bold form of the cover of the city hall, despite Of some say it is an imitation of Hang Gliding.

Since the change of the Chamber, the headquarters of Plaza Duque de Caxias came to belong exclusively to the Executive Branch. Between 1989 and 1992, the municipal administration left the building, which was transformed into a cultural center of the municipality. In order to do so, it has provided acoustics and space for art gallery and other facilities for cultural activities. The headquarters of the City Hall moved to the corners of Henrique Laranja and Sete de Setembro streets, in a three-story building in the city center.

Reopening - The Theater was closed for a few years and reopened in May 2016. It received several improvements: new exterior and interior painting, recovery of the stage floor, plaster lining recovery, replacement of damaged doors, recovery of bathrooms, recovery of Chandelier of the main entrance, repairs in the electrical part, replacement of the carpet of the wall, recovery of the upholstery of all the chairs, acquisition of all sound equipment and scenic lighting, in addition to a new air conditioning system.
