Art of Protest Gallery

Street art, Tattoos and iconography from popular culture are the most consistent visual vernaculars for people today. Advertising, whether online or on the street, has dominated and become a visual Esperanto for the world. The cultural production born of this reality, while common and popular in the very largest and most diverse cities of the world does not break through to everyday conversations outside of these established arenas. The algorithms of the internet seem to create silos of like minded people, while the goal of the Art of Protest is to push these conversations beyond the borders of country, religion, class and social media groups;to illuminate the common ground that we all stand on through the prism of visual culture.

If we are to engage and recognize the social value of a more connected global community the visual culture resulting from these changes needs to be dispersed and discussed beyond the echo chambers of specific interest groups.

If the creative production of a period of time is the historical barometer of that time; the role of landscape painting as a critique of industrialization and colonialism in the 19th century is as lost as the religious messages embedded in the rich allegorical paintings of Renaissance Italy. Art Now is Urban Contemporary dialogues on environment, consumption, identity and the global audience.
