Hotel Bernini Palace

Originally a 15th century “palazzo”, the Hotel Bernini is built according to the classic Florentine architectural style, with string-course cornices along the walls and wooden shutters giving it a charming antique flavor. The hotel corridors are furnished with beautiful period pieces that further enhance the intimate charm of this elegant building: period chests of drawers, magnificent watches and extremely valuable pendulum clocks. Paintings and antique prints create a warm, sumptuous atmosphere. Most recently, the hotel lobby and one floor of the property have been newly renovated. These newly designed areas now boast a unique combination of the classic original Italian décor with an added inspiration from Morocco and other parts of Northern Africa. This fusion is a historical nod to the Northern African spice merchants that inhabited the city and surrounding areas in Tuscany during the Renaissance period.

The oldest news about the Hotel goes back to 15th century when the building belonged to the old family “Pera”, presumed ancestor of the family Peruzzi, the most powerful Florentine financiers with enormous interests in Europe. Toward the middle of the last century, this building, infused with a magical Medici atmosphere, housed the plush "Albergo dello Scudo”. Between 1865 and 1870 it was also the seat of the Parliament of the young Kingdom of Italy, which Florence was capital of. After this prestigious interlude, the name of the hotel was changed several times, once even housing the famous Doney restaurant. The hotel has been patronized by a number of performing arts celebrities.

The 74 rooms including 8 suites and junior suites, are fitted out with the best, most up-to-date mod-cons and still preserve the charm of the past. The Bernini Palace Hotel has just undergone a huge refurbishment which has further enhanced the hotel with a new lobby, bar and restyled first floor renamed “The Tuscan Floor”. The Tuscan Floor is reminiscent of old world Tuscan colours and themes, very warm and inviting. The new design incorporates beautiful terracotta floors in warm glowing shades of reds and oranges, coffered ceilings, four poster beds, along with rich fabrics and objects recreating a romantic interpretation of 15th century Florence. From last January you could sleep wrapped up in pure linen bed sheets under hypoallergenic duvet and white, light cotton satin quilt cover.
