Macanudo

THE CONCEPT The Macanudo is a hybrid place, both bar, restaurant and bookstore, which focuses its proposals around the Latin American culture. At any time of the day, come for lunch, enjoy a pastry or an empanada, enjoy a coffee or aperitif surrounded by several hundred pounds. The books of our bookshop are new and intended for sale.

THE STORY During a long stay in the Southern Cone of America, we discovered hybrid places, which combine a bar and restaurant activity with a bookstore activity and cultural diffusion. Since then, we have been thinking about creating a similar place. Macanudo is a word used in some Latin American countries, which could be translated as amazing, awesome. It is also a series of comics by a contemporary Argentinian author, Ricardo Siri Liniers, whose wonderful work we find, and to whom we wanted to pay tribute. Reading is often considered as a solitary and silent practice, the book as an object whose presence would be reserved for places that are specifically dedicated to them, thus not always favoring their access. The discovery of a culture of books and literature different from ours has shown us that it is possible to reconsider this image. Indeed, we are convinced that books are made to circulate, to be manipulated, that they are the occasion for exchanges and conversations and that they fit perfectly into the world of a lively and festive bar .
