Museo de Bellas Artes de Córdoba

The Museum of Fine Arts, Cordoba is an art museum State ownership managed by the Government of Andalusia. The museum discourse is based on showing art in Cordoba since the thirteenth century to the present.

The Museum was created by Royal Order in 1844, with funds from confiscated convents in Cordoba. It was not until 1862 when it is located at its current site, the old Charity Hospital late fifteenth century, along with other cultural institutions, which will leaving over time.

1862 also marks the arrival of Rafael Romero Barros as museum conservator-restorer, who brings a broad view of heritage and overturns the Cordovan culture. He will happen to him in 1895, and later as director, his son Enrique Romero de Torres. It will be with him when the collection grows considerably through purchases and donations. After the death in 1930 of Julio Romero de Torres, the annex is created, now independent, Museo Julio Romero de Torres in one of the pavilions of the enclosure.

Enrique will happen to you in the direction his nephew and son of Julio Romero, Rafael Romero de Torres Pellicer. With it takes just the only expansion of the museum in 1953. The museum will posteriomente a situation of neglect and stagnation.

In 1981 Fuensanta Garcia de la Torre, approves public opposition in the square of the direction of the museum, which he held until 2012, and since 1984 the institution is managed by the Government of Andalusia. During this period major reforms in the institution, museological and museographic level occurs, and some gaps in the collection are completed.

From 2013 until today, José María Palencia Cerezo, former Technical Adviser Conservation and Research, is the director of the museum.
