Museo Diocesano Fossano

The Diocesan Museum houses Fossano in five exhibition halls a rich heritage of valuable paintings, sculptures and artifacts in silver, dating between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. They are precious works that still testify today the bond between God and man through art. Emblematic in this regard is the group of the nine splendid paintings, authentic Biblia Pauperum, that tell the stories of Joseph Jew, executed around 1613 and attributed to Joseph Barroto. Deserve special attention because these paintings authentic open doors through which the observer came to the message of faith moving from urban views, almost metaphysical and nuanced interpretations of the ideal Renaissance city, a suggestion of Flemish landscapes. Worth noting the five paintings by Sebastiano Taricco, that adorned the altar in the ancient oratory of the Holy Trinity. Among these paintings, one must remember a suggestive Adoration of the Magi and the figures of the Blessed Amedeo of Savoy and Blessed Oddino Barotti. The charming baroque wooden sculptures, created in the workshops of Plura, of Nicholas and dell'Andora and exhibited in the red room and the blue room, with deep humanity and pity oozing from their faces, they were the protagonists of the evocative religious ceremonies of Holy Week .
