Frederick Stibbert was born in 1838 to an English father and Italian mother. With the family lived in the villa Montughi but spent his youth studying in England. He is having inherited the vast fortune of his grandfather, throughout his life he devoted himself to collect objects from all over the world. The villa and grounds fact contain thousands of objects, distributed in 57 rooms, ranging from armor to weapons to paintings up to the costumes. Stibbert donated the villa and all its treasures to the city of Florence in 1906, the year of his death, ordering it became a public museum. The museum was officially opened in 1909 and still remains a testament to his passion for collecting and his interest in the history of costume.
