BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SANCTUARY

In 1624, says a chronicler of Pordenone, Sebastiano Mantica: "proved the Madonna delle Grazie, which was painted on a shrine on the road that led from Pordenone to San Gregorio. This miracle drew many faithful around the image of Mary and there were many offers that accumulated with which it was possible to erect the church whose foundation stone was laid on 28 October 1626 by the Vicar General of the Bishop Mons. Donato Casella. This church for about three centuries greeted the faithful who turned to Mary receiving favors and graces, in 1800, was replaced by a new much larger church, while the old and small church is still partially visible next to the current Sanctuary. The three-nave church is particularly striking and collection and attention to those who enter, is immediately attracted by the image of the Virgin placed above the main altar, a mother reaching out to her children. It is actually the ancient fresco adapted to the tabernacle in which it was placed in 1921. The new temple was opened for worship May 14, 1918 even if the consecration was performed on August 13, 1921 by Bishop Luigi Paulini. The image was solemnly crowned on 8 September 1924 by the Patriarch of Venice Pietro La Fontaine, in the presence of numerous bishops and city authorities, including the joy of a huge crowd. The organ was built by Mascioni of Cuvio and was inaugurated in 1975 with an acclaimed concert. The majestic crucifix placed at the side of the celebrations is the work of the Florentine sculptor bronze Amalia Ciardi - Duprè.
