The Theatre of the Bolhão was formed in 2002, consisting of a group of eleven professionals with artistic direction of Antonio Capelo, Glory Full, John Paul Costa, Joan Providence and Pedro Aparicio, which later joined Anthony Julius. The company, based in the Palace of Bolhão, has a synergistic relationship with the ACE School of Arts, now 25 years of activity, integrating young professionals formed a working team in constant renewal.


Since its debut, with A Terrible Rise of Arturo Ui in 2003 Bolhão Theatre promotes a model of eclectic and multidisciplinary production. It took the classic dramaturgy scene - like Don Juan (2005), Otello (2009), Oedipus (2012) or Ajax (2014); contemporary - as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (2004) Start End (2006), The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant (2011) or three a Swing (2013); and unpublished texts, such as Write me (Night) (2014), or the playwright's texts resident Zeferino Mota Do not I look, but Nipples that Harden When Someone I Look (2012), Hierarchy (2015) and I Will Shakespeare (2016) .


Another component of this production are the multidisciplinary spectacles codirector Joan Providence, as Pioravante Marche (2003), Hand Over Mouth (2004) or Territory (2014, nominated for the authors award for Best Choreography for the SPA) and Shockwaves (2016) which also cover the child audience with plays like the Fairy Oriana (2004), the Girl of the Sea (2010), Opposites well-arranged (2013) or a Family is a Family (2015).


Since 2010, the company has been encouraging an educational service that promotes a continuous and organic relationship with the region in which it operates through workshops, laboratories and workshops, and also through the Theater Portable, which leads to schools literary works taught in different levels of education.
