Founded in 1979, the Belgian brewery Abbaye des Rocs is a family business founded by Jean-Pierre Eloir and his wife Marie-Jeanne Bertiau, and currently run by their daughter, Nathalie Eloir, and her partner Georges Levecq. At its creation, the brewery will be the first to launch the movement of micro-breweries in Belgium and in the rest of the world.

The first beer produced by Jean-Pierre Eloir is La Montagnarde, a spicy amber from the inhabitants of the village of Montignies-Sur-Roc where the brewery is located. Soon, the brown beer Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru is also produced. This strong brunette is renowned for its sweet taste and will quickly gain popularity. These two beers are followed by the Blanche des Honnelles, with citrus notes, and the blonde Passe-Tout-Outre, whose new recipe gives a fresh and hoppy blonde.

Since 1984, the Abbaye des Rocs has continued to invest and flourish while revitalizing the Belgian brewing activity as well as tourism activity in the Hauts-Pays region. From the 12 hectoliters produced at the time to 2000 hectoliters and more produced at present, the brewery has gone from a building comprising a brewing and racking room to two brewing rooms, a more efficient racking line and a much more spacious warehouse. The Abbaye des Rocs has also set up its own quality control system to guarantee products of impeccable character.

Using only local organic products, the Abbaye des Rocs is proud to offer beers with natural flavors, without additives or dyes. Exported worldwide, the brewery is more popular every year and enjoys an excellent international reputation.

It is currently possible to visit the Abbey of Rocs by appointment and taste the beers in the rustic setting of a water mill of the 12th century located nearby, in the charming town of Audregnies, 20km from Mons.
