Biodiversarium

The Biodiversarium, created in 2010 in Banyuls sur Mer, depends Laboratory Arago himself established in the region since 1882. Its mission is to achieve a work explanation of the science lab to the general public. With strong Laboratory research work, Biodiversarium has extensive knowledge of the biodiversity of the Pyrenees-Orientales. These many knowledge give you the opportunity to see and understand regional biodiversity through a land-sea continuum materialized by two complementary areas: the Aquarium and the Mediterranean Garden. These two sites allow you to admire the exceptional diversity of animals and plants in the region of -1000 m to 1000 m altitude.

The Mediterranean Garden Mas de la Serre, located on the heights of Banyuls-sur-Mer, on top of the Baillaury valley offers a panorama on three hectares of Mediterranean biodiversity. In order to get rich fauna and flora, the garden has opted for a different management style of classical gardens. Let nature express itself, without pesticides or systematic weeding, you can observe exceptional flora and fauna, too often removed from our usual green spaces.

Garden opening of Mas de la Serre:

• Low season (October to March): Open to groups by reservation only.

• Mid season (April, May, June, September): Monday to Friday 14:00 to 18:00. Closed weekends.

• High season (July and August): Sunday to Friday 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:00. Closed Saturdays.

The Aquarium of Banyuls-sur-Mer, created in 1885 is the oldest of the Mediterranean after that of Naples and Monaco. In addition to historical research place for students and researchers from the Laboratoire Arago, the Biodiversarium Aquarium presents the biodiversity local seabed. With 200 species of fish, invertebrates and plants, you can admire the richness of underwater fauna regional.

Opening public Aquarium:

• Low season (January, February, March, October, November, December): Open 7/7 from 14:00 to 18:00.

Closed December 25 and January 1.

• Mid season (April, May, June, September): Open 7/7 from 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:00.

• High season (July and August): Open 7/7 from 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 19:00.
