Since the late 60 welfare activities towards disabled people are carried out in the municipality of San Giovanni La Punta, which has become secondary office for social activities - welfare of the church.

In 1979, the center of San Giovanni La Punta become "medical institute - psycho - pedagogical agreement with the Ministry of Health and the Regional Health Department for rehabilitation treatment of residential and semi-residential type. Since 1994 also it provides outpatient rehabilitation treatments.

Today the rehabilitation center is accredited by the national health system.

Since 2003, thanks to several campaigns of archaeological excavations have revealed many artifacts that testify to the various settlements that have occurred since Roman times to the present day.

The church of Sant'Agata la Vetere on 11 April 2005 has been certified by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of Catania as a "Cultural Heritage of artistic historical interest", according to art. 10 paragraph 1 of Legislative Decree No. 42/2004.
