In 1956 Fakkelteater was founded by a group of idealists who are socially engaged drafted and brought pieces with a socio-cultural background.

The Torch "burst into the 70s in the small hall (84 seats) on the Mutsaert Street. A second platform was searched and Meir Theatre was born. Due to the increasing success one had to look for a larger theater. This was found in the High Street (formerly the "Civic Circle"). The Red Hall (260 seats) was created.

In 1991, the last expansion took place: the former cinema Alhambra in Reyndersstraat was transformed into the Black Hall. This makes the wanderings of the theater seem provisionally passed.

Successes like "" Nonsense "and" The Buitenwippers "followed each other until fate struck in 1993 in the form of a subsidy stop.

It, however reputable company stood on the street and the Fakkelteater changed its structure in a non-subsidized receptive production center.

The Torch Theatre, located in the heart of Antwerp, has become a fixture on the streets of the High Street and the Reyndersstraat.
