The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava was founded as a regional gallery in 1952 and is the oldest gallery in Ostrava . It follows the Society for the Construction and Maintenance of the Exhibition Pavilion in Moravská Ostrava from 1923 onwards. The first exhibition was the collection of the Ostravian builder and art collector František Jureček (the so-called Jureček Gallery). Since the 60s of the 20th century, the gallery opened extensive acquisitions and expanded its collections of fine arts. At present, the gallery houses display an exhibition of collections of Czech paintings of the 19th and 20th centuries and also some sculptures of the 20th century.
