Grotte di Onferno - Riserva Naturale

The area is characterized by a small strip of Messinian evaporites with karst phenomena and the woods surrounding the wreck. The vegetation is made up of forest vegetation edges, from very diverse secondary grasslands depending on the substrate and shrubs of the forest cover recovery. The area is home to rare plant species particularly for the region: Staphylea pinnata, Phyllitis scolopendrium, polypodium Southern, etc .. The karst cave system Onferno holds the largest colony of bats in the region, more than 8000 individuals, belonging to seven species including Miniottero (Miniopterus schreibersii), the most abundant species at Onferno, considered endangered throughout Europe.
