Museo Civico "Antonio Adriano" - "La cultura del gesso"

The Museo Civico "Antonio Adriano" - The chalk culture, aims to document a very special construction technique, widespread in farmhouses of some countries of the Roero, dell'Astigiano and Ovada. It is made up of horizontal connections in load bearing plasterboard cast on site, including a framework of beams and joists, wooden matrices of bearing a decorative pattern engraved in negative, that remains impressed in a positive on the panel. The oldest dated attic, found in a farmhouse of Vezza d'Alba, is of 1580; the latest specimens date back to the mid-nineteenth century, when the spread of factories for the production of large-scale brick, of iron profiles, of lime and cement, led to the abandonment of the techniques - like the one of the floors - related logic the individual site and anchored to territories rather narrow. The Museum intends to present the phenomenon in all its aspects: the construction methods, the physical characteristics of the plaster, the geological formation of the territory, the method of extraction, the marketing streets, building and urban typologies in which the slabs are placed , the decorative motifs and objects that inspired them. At the end of this interesting historical, scientific and artistic emerge throughout highlight the important role that the plaster has had, for a long time in the life of our country.
