The Museum of Fine Arts in Granada rooted in the desamortizador process promoted by the Minister Alvarez Mendizabal in the nineteenth century. With the collected artistic treasures of the convents and monasteries suppressed a collection which is dominated by the origin of their funds, grenadine religious theme painting made between the sixteenth and the eighteenth was established. Throughout the twentieth century, these collections have been increasing with the work of nineteenth and twentieth century authors and topics related to Granada. Since 1958, the Museum is identified with the majestic building in which is housed: the Palace of Charles V, designed by Pedro Machuca in the sixteenth century.
