Museo dell'Arte della Lana

The Art Museum of Lana is located in the complex of the former woolen mill of Stia (Arezzo), in Casentino, restored after decades of neglect. From the mid-nineteenth century to the fifties of the twentieth century the Stia Wool Mill was the pivot around which revolved the local economy; in the first decades of the twentieth century was one of the main Italian wool mills. Today is a wonderful example of industrial archeology, the recovery of which has been made possible by the "Fondazione Luigi and Simonetta Lombard", the owner of the entire work area and lender, and engineering companies and architecture Comes srl who designed and directed the restoration work. as a place of memory, testimony of past production, rich in meaning in the first place for local people The bright and airy spaces of the woolen mill are not simply a "container" but are themselves "museum". Today the building is reborn not as a place of production but as a center for the dissemination of the textile culture typical of this area. In addition to representing the historical memory of the wool mill, the museum wants to be a living space, an experience for the visitor who can touch, smell, listen, learn, experiencing firsthand, the dexterity of some gestures own art wool.
