Le origini del Museo di Antropologia ed Etnografia risalgono al 1923, anno in cui venne conferita al Prof. Giovanni Marro la cattedra di Antropologia dell'Ateneo torinese: egli costituì il Museo con raccolte antro-etnologiche di svariata origine e provenienza, nonché di pezzi collezionati dal padre Prof. Antonio Marro psichiatra e antropologo.


Il materiale del museo comprende inoltre reperti di qualità eccezionale e unici al mondo, come la collezione egiziana che, per il suo valore scientifico, costituisce un unicum. Essa comprende 650 scheletri egizi completi, alcuni di epoca neolitica, 1300 crani isolati, 80 teste di mummia, 5 mummie complete predinastiche e 15 dinastiche. Su questi reperti si sono compiuti e si stanno compiendo approfonditi studi di carattere scientifico, antropologico e paleopatologico.


CHRONOSTORY 1926 : the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the University of Turin (Italy) is created by Prof. Giovanni Marro (1875-1952) psyschiatrist and anthropologist 1970 : the Museum is set by Prof. Brunetto Chiarelli, at that time director of the Museum, as an itinerary along the Natural History of Humankind 1984 : the Museum is closed since it does not meet safety rules in force anymore 1997 : Prof. Emma Rabino Massa, new director of the Museum, organizes an exhibition called "Luci su 6000 anni Uomo" (Lights on 6000 years Man) 1998-2008 : every year the Institution proposes a different exhibition in its rooms in order to exhibit, even partially, its heritage. The sequence is "Africa", "Il Museo si racconta", "Splendide preziosità quotidiane", "Il cammino dell’Uomo sulle Alpi" and "Art Brut – L’arte della follia" 2013-2014 : the Museum will be moved to the new headquarter of the "Sistema Museale di Ateneo", the new museum complex of the University of Turin.


THE COLLECTIONS Egyptian Collection of Anthropology : 650 entire skeletons, 1300 skulls, 80 heads of mummies, 5 pre-dynastic mummies and 15 entire dynastic mummies Anthropological Collection of Skulls and Skeletons and the Neurological Collection : human remains with various geographical origins and of various historical periods coming from various archeological venues and from the Psychiatric Hospital in Collegno, Turin Paleo-ethnological Collection : pre-historical and archeological finds, special focus on the collections of Neolithic vases from Gebelein in Egypt Ethnographical Collection : objects from the North Italian Alps, from Romania, from Middle and Far East, from sub saharian Africa, from North and South America, and, in the end, from Oceania Art Brut Collection : 200 artistic relics made by the hospitalized patients of the Psychiatric Hospital in Collegno, Turin, Italy (late 800 – aerly 900) Anthropometrical Instruments Collection : Marro’s ownership
