Museo di Zoologia

Established in 1860, the Museum of Zoology is its present location since 1936. There are preserved materials from the collections of the XVI-XVIII centuries (Aldrovandi, Cospi, Marsili) already belonged to the Museum of Natural History of the Institute of Sciences. More recently acquired (1815-1860) are the collection of vertebrates studied by Ranzani and the Mozambican collections of vertebrates and invertebrates studied by Bianconi, Bertoloni and others. The first half of this century are the collection of Italian birds Zaifagnini-Bertocchi, the beetles collection palaearctic collected from flowers and insect collections of the Aegean islands and Libya gathered by Chigi. Notable for the number of specimens and scientific interest are the entomological collection and the Malacological growing. The original nucleus of the collection, consisting of collections of Aldrovandi, Cospi and Marsili were added in the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century new acquisitions. In recent years we have been greatly increased and re the ethnological and malacological collections, accessible to scholars. Currently the ground floor are exposed the ornithological collections, African trophies and dioramas. On the first floor are the systematic collection of the most important groups of animals and Altobello collection including amphibians, reptiles and mammals
