Posavski muzej Brežice

The Posavje Museum of Brežice is located in the castle Brežice. The castle itself and the later urban settlement were built on a hill on the left bank of the Sava River, which was already an important transport route between the Balkans and the Alpine world in antiquity. The museum was founded in 1949, and the very beginnings date back to the year 1939, when members of the Museum Society, lovers and collectors of antiques contributed materials for the first museum collection (1940). In 1940 the museum was founded in the church of Sv. Spirit in Krško. In 1949, the painter Franjo Stiplovšek organized a collection of archaeological, ethnological and artistic historical objects in the part of the castle, which over the years complemented it. After 1979, the entire building (with the exception of the basement) was dedicated to the presentation of cultural heritage and cultural events. The Posavina Museum covers the territorial territory of the five Posavje municipalities (Brežice, Sevnica, Krško, Kostanjevica na Krki and Radeče), and in the period from the prehistory to the present. The museum features rich archeological, ethnological, historical and artistic historical heritage. In addition, the museum offers a rich collection of collections, conducts a modern exhibition policy and develops forms of work with schoolchildren, which take place through lessons and workshops. The museum can attend various round tables, lectures and music evenings. Collections that can be viewed in the museum are:
